Coming out of lockdown poses big challenges for Scotland’s economy, many of which are beyond the direct influence of the Scottish Government’s devolved settlement. It is clear that the level of economic investment required to rebuild the economy is at least 16 times greater than the £5 billion being proposed by the UK government. It is not even clear if any of that money will result in any additional Barnett consequential funding for Scotland. Perhaps it is not surprising to see another new poll showing support for independence at 54%.
The performing arts are in a perilous state and a real plan is needed to ensure that both the people and the infrastructure survive until audiences can safely return.
